Official Policy
Regarding Medications, Alcohol, Marijuana, and Training
- PURPOSE: Policy regarding use of Medications, Alcohol, and Marijuana during events
with the 2IR, CSM.
- SCOPE: Applies to ALL members of 2IR, CSM, active, recruit, observer and/or
potential parties.
- STANDARDS:
- Prescription Medications
- All members, regardless of rank or status, are not prevented from taking medication
as required per doctor’s advice and prescription.
- Members under a doctor’s care that are prescribed medications, have a duty to notify
the Chain of Command of said medications.
- The Chain of Command with advice of medical staff, shall review medications and
determine if medications warrant special concern or training requirements. The Chain of Command will monitor members under medication and determine whether prescribed medications impair a member and
pose safety risk when participating in training.
- After consideration/observation, command may issue waivers if individual has proven
the dosage/frequency of medication is not an impairing factor.
- Medications that may impair a member’s ability to properly control their weapon will
result in that member not able to participate in live fire training.
- Medications defined by the State of California and the American Medical Association
as potentially impairing must be carefully monitored when weapons are concerned.
- Prior to taking medications affecting mental state or potentially affecting members
use of a weapon, members will place their weapons in their vehicle, properly secured in accordance with CA State Law and 2IR, CSM standards regarding safe storage and transport of weapons.
- Weapons must be properly UNLOADED.
- Ammunition must be separate from Weapon.
- Vehicle must be locked.
- Alcohol Use
- Alcohol use during Training is PROHIBITED.
- Members of legal drinking age that choose to consume alcohol, AFTER DUTY
HOURS AS DETERMINED BY COMMAND STAFF, must, prior to consumption, place their weapons in their vehicle properly secured in accordance with CA
State Law and 2IR CSM standards regarding safe storage and transport of weapons.
- Weapons must be UNLOADED.
- Ammunition must be separate from Weapon.
- Vehicle must be locked.
- Marijuana Use
- Marijuana is legal for recreational use in the State of California.
- The 2IR, CSM will not interfere with state law. However, use during training is
prohibited.
- Members of legal age that choose to consume Marijuana AFTER DUTY HOURS AS
DETERMINED BY COMMAND STAFF, must, prior to consumption, place their weapons in their vehicle properly secured in accordance with CA State Law and
2IR, CSM standards regarding safe storage and transport of weapons.
- Weapons must be UNLOADED.
- Ammunition must be separate from Weapons.
- The vehicle must be locked.
- Members who choose to consume Marijuana are advised to respect other members and if
consumed by smoking, move downwind.
- ANY Member who violates this
policy is subject to disciplinary actions by the Chain of Command according to the ByLaws of the 2IR CSM.
- First Offense: Members may receive, At the discretion of the Chain of Command, either a Verbal and/or Written Reprimand.
- Second Offense: Members may receive, At the discretion of the Chain of Command, either a Special Duty Assignment and/or Suspension from current
training.
- Third Offense: Members will serve a Suspension from 2IR, CSM for 90 days, then Offense Probation for 90 Days
- vi. If a member after 3 offenses, suspension, or probation, violates this
policy again, the Member is permanently expelled from the 2IR, CSM and ineligible to return.
